For a studio course assignment, I was to create a project for a fellow classmate. My classmate and friend, Mannat, grew up in India and moved to New York City to her pursue art and design career. One of the many activities Mannat enjoys is playing card games and board games with family and friends. Learning this, I thought the best way to represent who Mannat is, would be through creating a card deck that included 52 aspects of her. As a normal card deck has four suits, all 52 cards were categorized into suits of passions, home, freedom, and relaxation. These are conveyed through graphic symbols on each card that were sourced from The Noun Project and accompanying hand drawn suit symbols. The outer card deck box was designed using the storytelling based art and design that Mannat creates.
